Little-known secrets of Marin County. It is credited worldwide for being the birthplace of the Mountain bike. The original home of Lucasfilm. Sir Francis Drake landed and is rumored to have buried treasure in the hills. Originally considered a place no one wanted to live, as it was logging territory. Home to 250,000 population, touting a 93% voter registration. Home of Johnny Moseley, gold medalist of the 1998 Olympics. Dirty Harry, Gattaca, and The Fog were all filmed in Marin. During World War II, the Marin Headlands and surrounding areas were a critical part of the defense network protecting the entrance to San Francisco Bay. The Marin Headlands were heavily fortified during WWII with soldiers, radar stations, anti-aircraft guns, and coastal defense batteries protecting the Bay Area. Marinship in Sausalito built 93 cargo ships during World War II, employing tens of thousands of workers supporting the Allied war effort.
