My father kept a red Trump hat in his truck, and yes, people had opinions about it. He had opinions too. Plenty of them. He could get loud at the TV, especially when he thought somebody was lying straight to people’s faces.
But he was also the man who stopped to help a stranger with a flat tire, paid for a woman’s groceries once when her card would not work, and cried like a child when my sister had her first baby.
That is what people miss sometimes. They see the politics and think they know the whole person. They don’t.
My dad loved America, voted Republican his whole life, and believed this country still belonged to regular people if they had the guts to stand up for it. This hex is for him, becuase he was more than a hat, more than an argument, and more than people would guess from the outside.
