My father served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. He never talked about it, not once, not even when I asked directly. He came home, married my mother, started a hardware store in Newark that stayed open until 2003. He died in 2017. The week before he passed he told me, finally, one thing about the war — just one sentence — and I will carry it with me until my own end. This hex is for Dad. Whatever it cost him, he never let it cost us.
