Where the Smith family started

My maiden name is 'Smith'. In 1977, I had to write a paper in College about my ancestors. As I queried my parents, Mom had buckets of information going back generations. But Dad-NOTHING. He knew his parents names, of course, and also his grandparents names, and that was it. In 1977, there was no Ancestry, no DNA databases and the best thing you could have done. at that time was visit County Court houses to rummage through hundreds of records in the hopes you would find something, anything, your ancestors. In the course of doing this, I found a marriage certificate between his paternal grandparents, Jordan Smith and Julia Belle Mayberry. Dad would fill my head with stories of living and knowing his grandmother, Julia very well, yet at the time of his birth in 1929 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, there was no Jordan in the family and Julia had been married to another man for over 20 years. And the family never spoke of Jordan either. So I knew I had a mystery on my hands and secrets that I came to find out went back to 1868. Dad and I searched for years and years to uncover anything about Jordan, always searching records in Arkansas since that where they were married and where my great-grandmother had lived her entire life. Yet we were unable to find ANY trace of him. I had even promised my dad that I would find him before he died. Alas, it was not to be. Dad passed in July 2024, without us ever discovering anything about Jordan Smith. The fact that his name was 'Smith' didn't help as you may imagine. After Dad passed, I made a renewed commitment and as a tribute to my father, to find our mystery ancestor. I had fortunately had Dad and me take a DNA test a few years back, yet I didn't know how to read the results. So they sat for years. Last year, I decided to hire a Pro Genealogist to search the DNA results to try and find answers-and she blew open a story that is interesting at the least and mind boggling at the most!!! What she discovered is that Dad's paternal grandfather and my great-grandfather was one of 3 brothers conceived by a long term affair between their biological parents and when he was 3, Jordan's father had viciously murdered his mother. He was never convicted of it because of the connections his family had, yet his surname should have been 'Taylor' and not 'Smith. His mother had given the 3 boys the surname of 'Smith' because she had married a man named 'Smith'. After their mother's murder, the 3 boys were farmed out to their mother's relatives and not until DNA proved otherwise, other descendants from this affair were as clueless as me. I have now discovered cousins I never knew existed and the biggest surprised of all is that Dad's paternal grandfather's ancestors were all from a town called 'Farmerville' in Union County, Louisiana. I plan on visiting Farmerville in the near future as I believe I still have long un-knowned family there.
