At least two of my Great-Grandfathers and their families called Granville County home before my siblings and I walked here. They were early landowners adjacent Cub Creek and Knapp of Reeds(Butner). Veterans of the French and Indian War in VA, these people were self-sufficient and hardy. I almost doubt that we would share much in common with them today outside of similarity in language and guiding principle, yes the world is that different.
Growing up in Butner was a blessing. In the background of the noise of being a kid, I felt like I belonged. I will never forget Daniels Army Surplus and Jacks. SGAA Baseball and bikes. Hot summers, hot dogs at the Depot. Friends. Teachers. School. So many memories. My connection with this area of NC predates our founding, and I am proud that our family helped begin making it safe for habitation and set this area on a path that helped raise me. From the Langstons, Absolom and his Father John, Brother Solomon and others, to the Halls, we are proud to remember and honor our shared contributions in the 250th anniversary of NC and of our NAtion.
