My dad kept a small American flag on the shelf beside his Bible. Not for show. Most people never even saw it unless they came into the back room where he paid bills and kept old papers.
He was a Republican his whole life, but he was not the kind to yell at strangers about it. He voted, prayed, complained about taxes, and still helped people he disagreed with when they needed it. That was his way.
He believed South Dakota was one of the last places where a man could still be left alone if he worked hard and minded his family. Maybe that sounds old fashioned. He was old fashioned.
This hex is for my father, for his Bible, for that little flag, and for the country he prayed for right up until the end.
